Bob Angel of Simply Country reviews ‘Echoes’

The album has 10 tracks

1/ Shifting Sands

The track starts with a haunting harmonica intro that draws you into the music, it’s a song about the questions of life and how we can capture times and places if we just take the trouble to care and not let life slip through our fingers like shifting sands.
Helena’s vocals are both filled with feeling and emotion with a slight echo to match and complement the Harmonica melody of the track.

2/ Reflections

This track starts really upbeat, with a catchy beat and melody telling you that things are always on move and if you look back on your life it may not seem like it but on reflection as the story turns out ok and there is always light at the end of tunnel. A happy track telling your existence here is a series of stories that make up the book of your whole life.

3/ Frozen

Helena’s voice captures the lyrics perfectly on this track, with a beautiful guitar pick as part of the melody, I feel this song is part of a very personal story of Helena, the words are beautiful and you need to be still and listen to this track and get lost in the wonder of the whole story. Be strong and be faithful to yourself.

4/ Prove you wrong

This song is really upbeat with almost a honky tonk piano as a major part of the melody
It’s all about doing what you want to do and really not listening to others that are being negative towards you. Believe in yourself and show that you can do it.

5/ No Regrets

Helena voice is haunting in this track with multi-layer vocals, complemented by a great guitar riff. Live your life, marching to the beat of your own heart and never regret anything, because life is a one shot and not a rehearsal.

6/ Midnight Adagio

Helena surpasses herself with both the lyrics and the vocals on this track, the backing vocals and slight echo gives this track a magical sound. In essence this is also a track that you need to just stop and listen and let yourself soak up the dream like feelings that it gives you.

7/ Butterflies

The song is about wishing life was like it used to be, but then looking forward to what you have and realising each day is brand new, I feel an affinity with Helena on the song but then again it also fits us all in many ways, you could say an anthem to your life.

8/ Echoes

This track as you might guess has some echo built in, but go past the effects and lay bare the lyrics and we can all feel a connection with what Helena is singing about, once again Helena’s vocal range is used superbly on this song.

9/ When Those Stars Align

Starting with a piano melody, the song sounds like it going to be a story of sorry, but no, listen to what she is saying it’s a story of hope and success just look for the star to follow and you will prevail and things can turn out alright, so don’t be afraid the Stars will Align Again.

10/ Never Ending Days

This track is a bit rockier but starts with some acoustic guitar from Helena but then an electric guitar burst’s on with a very rocky riff sort of saying from the start this will be something different, and that’s just what it gives you. This song may take you be surprise and is a very clever track to be set as the final song.

Conclusion
This album in my personal opinion all in all is by far Helena’s best, it’s so musically rounded and the lyrics are so intense as to what they are saying you really just have to listen to it over and over to get to travel along with Helena and get the full story, I think in all I’m just saying in my own way about this album watch out there is more here than you think.

If you’re a fan of Helena’s work I guess you have already ordered this CD, if your new to her work, then treat yourself to something a bit special.
